I Don't Like Filing
You know, it's not the filing I despise so much. It's the fat file folders that don't really fit in the cabinet. Understanding this about myself helped me get why I don't file. I don't like struggling with the overcrowded cabinet.
For the most part I'm kind of lazy. My idea of being organized is getting things put away with the least amount of effort. So you can see how difficult this whole filing thing has been for me. The solution? When something goes in a file, something else comes out. I try very hard to throw away as much as I keep.
It's a great rule for other things, too. Something comes in, something else goes out. You've got a lot better chance of everything fitting nicely that way. Imagine the piles of paper that dog you the most, what if you threw one away for every one you kept? I can promise it's a lot more manageable.
Life with skinny files is bliss.
Tricky Duck Tip: Apply the one in, one out rule to the papers your kids bring home.
